CAIRO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) — At the official Al Jazeera Experimental Language School in downtown Cairo, a group of volunteers held a series of interactive activities on Monday about customs, symbols and the Chinese language to help Egyptian students better understand China and the Chinese. Language.
These activities are part of a three-day initiative launched by the Chinese Bridge Club in Cairo to facilitate Chinese language learning for Egyptian students, following the launch of a pilot Chinese language teaching program in September. in 12 Egyptian public colleges.
At Monday’s event, a China promotional video was shown to help attendees learn about the country’s history and landmarks.
The volunteers also practiced Chinese martial arts and joined the students in interactive activities such as guessing words.
“I love China so much…I always wanted to visit this great country, so I want to learn the Chinese language,” Qugaya Sherif, a seventh-grade student, told Xinhua during the activities.
“Studying a foreign language is always good,” said the 13-year-old, adding that the initiative to teach Chinese as an optional second foreign language in Egyptian schools gives her “a great opportunity” to learn a language she loves.
Zhang Huasheng, science and technology adviser of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, said at the event that he was happy that many Egyptian students welcomed the idea of learning Chinese.
“It is the result of the continuous strengthening of the friendship between China and Egypt, and it is a significant proof of the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt,” he said. .
As more and more people have started to learn Chinese, it has gradually become the “bridge of culture and friendship” that connects China with the rest of the world, he said.
“Now, optional Chinese lessons are offered in Egyptian schools, which means more Egyptian friends will learn Chinese and improve their understanding of China,” he noted.
For her part, Sahar al-Gamal, director of Al Jazeera’s official experimental languages school, said the school would do its best to make the project a success and “help promote awareness of learning the Chinese language”.
